
As part of the four yearly Modern Award review in 2017, the Fair Work Commission determined that Modern Awards should include a Casual Conversion term. As of 1 October 2018, many casual workers (that have worked on a regular and systematic basis over a 12 month period), have the right to request that their employment is converted to part-time or full-time.
We urge clients currently employing casual staff to familiarise themselves with the changes and confirm their obligations. Advice can be sought from your employer association, HR or Industrial Relations advisor.
