NSW fundraising authority changes for ACNC-registered charities

Following changes brought in on 1 April 2026, ACNC-registered charities no longer need to apply for, or renew, a separate NSW charitable fundraising authority.

This is a welcome reduction in duplicate administration for charities that fundraise in NSW. For many organisations, it should simplify compliance and remove the need to manage a separate NSW renewal process.

ACNC registered charities are now automatically taken to hold a ‘deemed authority’ in NSW once they notify the ACNC that they intend to fundraise in NSW. This notification can occur through the ACNC registration or reporting process, and a deemed authority has no fixed expiry date.

Importantly, the change does not remove fundraising compliance obligations altogether. NFPs still need to ensure their ACNC information is up to date, that fundraising activities are properly recorded, and that they comply with the relevant fundraising principles and conditions.

If your organisation fundraises in NSW, we recommend checking that your ACNC details accurately reflect your fundraising activities and that internal records, delegations and fundraising processes remain current. Check out the NSW Government website for more info.
