Searching for a volunteer Treasurer?

The Purpose team sometimes fields queries from clients on the best way to find a volunteer Treasurer.

It can be tricky to source the right candidate - someone with strong financial skills, as well as a passion for social impact.

See our quick guide below on the top spots to post your opportunity, to ensure you attract the right candidates…

  1. Ethical Jobs & Pro Bono Australia: Both websites have large audiences, already aligned to social impact and NFP governance. Strong targeting for Treasurer and Board roles, with modest listing fees.
  2. Institute of Community Directors Australia (ICDA): Free or low-cost listings, targeted to experienced Treasurers, Accountants and CFOs. The site also includes a Board Matching service.
  3. Seek Volunteer: Free postings, with broad reach and fast visibility. However, a wider audience means this avenue is less targeted to those specifically seeking NFP roles.
  4. CPA member connect: CPA Australia’s member boards are free and highly targeted to qualified Accountants but have a more limited reach (with a discussion-thread format rather than searchable postings, plus you’ll need CPA member access to view and post). We wouldn’t recommend this as a standalone strategy, but might be worthwhile in conjunction with another method.
  5. LinkedIn: Effective for attracting finance and governance professionals, especially when roles are clearly tagged as volunteer or Board positions and supported by a strong organisational mission. Login via an individual, or organisation’s, LinkedIn profile.
